The Heart Behind the Hard Work
I've always been told that I am a strong writer, but I never knew what to do with that for the longest time. I knew I didn't want to teach English, write any novels or movie scripts, or solely blog forever (although, blogging on the side is super fun).

In an effort to keep my writing skills sharp, I decided to write for the Kentucky Kernel, UK's award-winning independent newspaper, when I got to campus. I came into college as a marketing major, which is really cool and interesting and I wouldn't mind ending up in a marketing position later on in life, but it didn't really fit my ideal college scenario. So I changed majors into PR...for about 2 weeks. I thought it was a step in the right direction, but it wasn't everything I wanted either.

After truly loving writing anywhere from 2-7 articles per week for the Kernel and getting told by my editors that I did a great job on all of them, I decided to do the obvious: major in journalism.

Using my gift of writing to truly connect people to the world around them is a powerful, rewarding, amazing thing. And I've discovered through my experiences that my ultimate dream job would be to anchor a morning newscast, and once I make my name big enough, a political correspondent.

Ending up doing PR for a sports, entertainment, arts non-profit or music venue would be extremely satisfying as well, and I think studying journalism gives me unique skills to be able to do such thing.

After everything I've discovered about myself through journalism, one thing rings loud and true for me: Loving what you do is passion. Doing what you love is freedom.

I've found my freedom. Now, I want to bring it to others.
